Carterton Indoor Pool Project update

Members of the project team recently made submissions to the Carterton District Council long-term plan. Thanking the Council for the support provided so far, members made submissions focused on the therapeutic advantages of using a warm, all-year round pool for active recovery, rehabilitation and ongoing mobility for people of all ages, but especially for the older generation.

In addition, submissions were aimed at ensuring the Council recognises that the pool contributes to CDC Vision and Strategic focus as a welcoming and vibrant community where we all enjoy living, and in particular the four important strategic social outcomes, including: ‘A caring community that is safe, healthy, happy and connected’, and ‘Fit for purpose public facilities, spaces, parks and rural reserves’. Sadly, the Council will not be recognising this in their Long-term Plan.

The pool project is now at the Concept Design phase. Our concept designer CREATE Ltd is looking at two viable building system options: A Sprung and a Space frame system. The public should keep an eye out for pool design workshops, so you can attend and give your thoughts on the new designs. Watch this space for more details!

Appreciation this month goes to the Gladstone community for their Matariki Mid-Winter Swim fundraiser, Ron Mark, Christine Tracey, Gray Bartlett & the NZ Highwaymen for the donated signed Fender guitar, The Wairarapa Kids Choir, The Fern and Thistle Junior Pipe Band, In-Motion School of Dance & Kuranui Strings for the door koha from their recent concert at the Carterton Event Centre, and Mike Ashby for donating his time cleaning a fence for a member of the Carterton community who then donated to the pool. Thank you!
